About Activate Space Design Studio
Activate Space operates from a compact design studio situated on the Houghton Ridge, with magnificent views over the Wilds Nature Reserve, in the heart of Johannesburg.
The studio is a robust work space to allow for a wide range of design related projects and collaborations. The steep site in front of the studio was previously a dumping ground for all sorts of leftovers. It has been re-claimed and nurtured into a thriving, experimental, indigenous garden, which forms a vital breakaway space at anytime of the day.

About Lisa
Lisa Younger began her design career 26 years ago as a scenographer. She created the visual spaces for numerous live performance pieces, and worked within the iconic Windybrow, Market Theatre and Dance Factory spaces. In 2006 she established and began working as Activate Space, and extended her design practice to include the supply of interior and narrative design services. Lisa’s rigorous theatrical training and love of story-telling informs her approach to design. Her work is playful and thoughtful and accesses a community of skills, innovation and points of view across the architectural, interior, and visual arts disciplines. As a result she is able to design a wide range of unique projects. She certainly looks forward to working with you and will gather and co-ordinate the right team of specialists to activate your space.
Memberships and Registrations
- Lisa Younger is registered as a Senior Interior Designer with the African Institute of the Interior Design Professions
- Activate Space is registered on the Central Supplier Database for Government.
Activate Space will specify Proudly South African products and services all the time, wherever possible. Purchasing homegrown product reduces carbon footprint, grows local design industry and creates jobs.
In addition to the above, I welcome opportunity to work in partnership with other visual thinkers, architects, designers, landscapers, artists, artisans and entrepreneurs. I work with respect and consideration during the collaboration process, to support the forming of new and innovative ideas which result in the delivery of better designed spaces and products.
